Ex
Black Stars Coach E K Afranie has tipped
host nation South Africa to win the Championship of African nations (CHAN)
ahead of Ghana.
The
veteran coach said he is happy with the preparation of the South Africans so
far and tip them to emerge as Champions.
“We
(Local Black Stars) may qualify (out of Group C) but I tip the host South
Africa to annex the championship because they are prepared well. Our last match
against Senegal, they (Local Black Stars) did well and they won. That was the
first time I saw them play, but I wasn’t enthuse. I think they need to work
extra hard to win the tournament.” Coach
Afranie stressed.
In
November this year, the Local Black Stars beat Senegal 3-1 in the final of the
WAFU Cup in Kumasi but had difficulties penetrating into the defence of the opponents
and dominating the game. And the Ghana under 17 coach thinks the Black Stars
will have to work extra to be able to win the tournament.
Maxwell
Konadu and his lads will be hoping to lift the trophy for the first time since
the Competition was introduced in 2009.
Ghana
will open their Group C campaign with
Congo on Monday 13th January and play their 2nd game on
the 17th with Ethiopia before finishing up with Libya on the 21st of January.
