Ghana’s young defender Rashid Sumaila is building his strong credentials in South Africa with Mamelodi Sundowns who are showing outstanding form so far in the top-flight PSL.
The centre-back, who recently made his first start for the Black Stars in their World Cup qualifier against Egypt, has been instrumental in the successes of Sundowns so far this season with impressive displays at the centre of defence.
Sundowns have been unstoppable so far this season and are aiming to continue to chalk impressive results with Sumaila firmly protecting the back.
The Black Stars defender was in action on Tuesday night when Sundowns beat AmaZulu 7-1 in their Absa Premiership game to remain unbeaten this season.
‘Downs put on an exquisite display of attacking football as they brought AmaZulu’s unbeaten record away from home to an abrupt end.
AmaZulu looked dead and buried as ‘Downs controlled possession and passed the ball with confidence to the frustration of coach Rosslee.
Goals from Hlompho Kekana, Cuthbert Malajila, Dove Wome and a brace apiece from Katlego Mashego and second half substitute Katlego Mphela guided ‘Downs to the top of the standings.
Sthembiso Ngcobo found the back of the net for Usuthu from the spot.
Sundowns continued their great form against the KwaZulu-Natal outfit as Pitso Mosimane’s men bounced back in some style from their Telkom Knockout loss to Platinum Stars at the weekend.
Sumaila will continue to play for them if he continue at this rate and with Ghana coach APpiah watching the defender will be a key contender for starting places in the Black Stars.
