ESSIEN SET TO DEPART CHELSEA IN JANUARY

Fabien Piveteau, the agent of Ghana midfielder, Michael Essien has dismissed rumors that the Chelsea star will leave the Blues for Bastia or Sochaux in the French Ligue 1 in January next year but was quick to add that the 31-year-old could leave Chelsea within the next ten days.

“We need to stop with all that. Michael cannot play for Chelsea, a big club and then return to France. Do not even dream about it. In France, if Essien cannot play for Paris or Lyon then for Bastia and Sochaux, no disrespect but I say no to that. Taking care of the salary of a Chelsea player is already impossible!” Fabien Piveteau told France based RMC Sport.

Piveteau added that, “In fact, he (Essien) could leave Chelsea this winter. Several major European clubs playing in the Champions League have bid for him and a decision will be made within the next ten days . You should know that Michael was not on the list of players, who can play in the European Cup with Chelsea, so it is free to play in the Champions League with another club.”

Essien has been with Chelsea for eight seasons now since moving from Lyon in August 2005 but the former Liberty Professionals and Bastia player, has not been a regular for Coach Jose Mourinho’s Blues side this season.

The 2006 BBC African Footballer of the Year Award winner has featured in only three out of 19 English Premier League matches for Chelsea this season.
