Ghana Captain Asamoah Gyan was
excluded in the final list for the 2013 CAF Player of the year award. The 2010
BBC African player of the year could not make it in the final 3 man list comprising
of Ivorian duo Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba alongside Nigeria and Chelsea
midfielder John Mikel Obi.
The 28 year old former
Udinese,Rennes and Sunderland forward led Ghana to it’s berth to a third
successive World Cup appearance after
beating Egypt on a 7-3 aggregate score in the play offs.
Gyan has been in tremendous form for UAE side Al Ain scoring 73 goals in 71
appearance for the Dubai based club. HE also won the top scorer award on two consecutive
occasions. Gyan by far was the runner up of the 2010 CAF player award.
However,Ghana will be represented at the
award by U20 striker Ebenezer Assifuah who was the top scorer at the U20 World
Cup in Turkey in the summer.
Meanwhile Ahmed Fathy, Mohamed
Aboutrika and Sunday Mba are the trio nominated for the African-based African
Player of the Year award.
While, Orlando Pirates, who
made it through to the final of this year’s CAF Champions League, are nominated
alongside the eventual winners, Al Ahly, and CAF Confederation Cup champions,
CS Sfaxien, for the Club of the Year award.
