WEAL GOMAA BLAMES EGYPT FAILURE TO LENTHY SUSPENSION OF LEAGUE

Egypt Captain Wael Gomaa has blamed Egypt failure to qualify for the 2014 world cup on the lenthy suspension imposed on the League.

The Egyptian League was suspended mid this year  by the World Governing body (FIFA) due to the political instability in the country. But the 38 year old Ahly defender has linked their failure to make their first world cup berth since 1990 to the lenthy suspension imposed on the league.Egypt were crushed out of the World Cup qualifying play offs by Ghana.

“The suspension of domestic football had a negative impact on players. We are always frustrated for the lack of competitive football. It also took its toll on Ahli at the Club World Cup, unlike last year when we played for third place. The return of the league is the best way to get the national team back on the right track,” Gomaa told the Al Ahly official website.

The Egyptian top flight returned this Tuesaday.
