SANNIE DARRA EDGES CLUBS TO FIND
SPONSORSHIPS
Communication director of the Ghana football
Association(GFA),Ibrahim Sannie Darra has thrown a challenge to the 16 clubs
in the Ghana Premier League to look for Sponsorships for themselves and stop
depending only on the GFA for assistance.
.
In an interview with Live fm,an Accra based radio station,
the FA spokesperson said “The onus does not only rest on the GFA. The clubs
have also got their bits to do. The club have also got to market themselves and
their matches. When we talk about the
League not having sponsors, why do we not talk about the clubs not also having
sponsors. A lot of the clubs in Europe don’t depend more on the finances from
their FA’s but they rely more on the finances they are able to generate from
sponsorships,”.
The Ghana Premier league has no sponsorship after the FA
terminated the contract between they and Nigeria’s telecommunication network
Globacom after the leading communication company failed to pay their bits of
the agreement .
Prior to the start of the season the FA were supposed to pay
the 16 league clubs some sum of money to enable them prepare ahead of the
season as part of the deal the FA had with Glo.
Glo failed to pay the FA a sum of $6.5million after the
2012/2013 season which eventually lead to the terminating of the whole deal.
Asante Kotoko,Accra Hearts of Oak,Medeam SC and Ashanti Gold
are the only sides out of the 16 clubs who has got sponsorships
